Mass effect legendary edition review

Damn it has been a while.

EA has decided it will try to get some more money from the Mass Effect franchise and released the legendary edition.

As with the previous blog post I would have to say the graphical upgrade isn't that Apparent. In fact I almost didn't notice because I was thinking it would be more drastic like how it was for Halo CEA or Halo 2 Anniversary. No such luck, but it isn't just a rerelease either.

A list of improvements that I did notice, sound effects, environments (some of them), difficulty, UI, some textures, hairstyles.

Sound effects are the most notable improvement over the original. The first game had some good effects but some of the weapons just did not sound like a firearm. It was like little toy space guns. In ME 3 they brought Dice in to help with that and got some good results. From the sounds that are in this they looked like they wanted to keep the old noises but to improve them a little. Like the avenger rifle sounds (at least to me) like the one they had in the citadel DLC in ME3. The Mako also had a rework in this regard.

The environments also appear to have been improved a bit. Some of them like Eden prime look almost identical to the original but still familiar. But this is not felt all around. Noveria to me seems pretty much the same and so does Luna. Also I think they may have added some side quests. My first one was a asteroid with baterians on it. Now maybe I just missed that every time I played before but that would mean I missed it 7 times in the original. To me this quest felt like one you would have in ME2 not ME1. Either way its a good thing.

Difficulty and leveling also has some changes, primarily in the department of the old 60 level system and a new 30 level system. This choice may help those who dont want to spend over 40 hours to get max level a head start. Allowing for a faster paythrough while also allowing those of us who will spend 60 or more hours to do so. The UI also has been altered to look more like ME2 and 3s UI. It is a change that was seen in the trailers but a welcome one. The hairsyles also look to me more like ME3 as well.

Over all it is not a huge difference between the original and this version. But that is a good thing. They kept much of it intact and improved in areas that at least give it a fresh enough look to be worth money. Also like the MCC it gives a one purchase of all three games. So 50 bucks for 1-3 instead of buying individually and can easily pass the save data between them. Count me in.

Only issues I can report for this release is,

all audio cut out on noveria, (still have no idea why)

person sometimes gets frozen in one direction(must reload or deal with reversed controls until load screen)

crashed once

and weapon disappeared in cutscene so my person was holding air.

so yeah bioware fix this.

also I would like to say screw polygon since they are using this release to push a anti-cop agenda. So yeah screw those using this for politics.
