As 343 gets ready to Release Halo Infinite in 2021(Hopefully) they have begun releasing more data on it each month. This month they released a article and some pictures . If you want to give it a read here is the article: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/inside-infinite-december-2020
A summary
The first part of the interview was with three of the leads from the art and graphics team. they talk at length about how the demos gameplay was good they were lacking in the visuals. Even going as far as to say "While that aspect generally landed as we wanted, the reality is that the art and visuals weren’t at the bar we hold for Halo – even in a work-in-progress state." Another even said that they wanted to make the best looking halo game ever. Much of the technology they are trying to use was still a work in development there. Another failure they acknowledge was that halo 5 had deviated to far from established art design. They also insist that both new and old players will enjoy the new art style. Saying specifically "It was vital to embed Halo Infinite within very stable foundations that would borrow from the past as well as making sure that any new assets would convey a sense of legacy that would resonate with all players, old-timers and newcomers alike."
On the graphics front they also mention they are making great progress in the graphics front. "Some of the key areas of progress include better quality of global illumination, ambient occlusion, shadows, volumetric lighting, sky, and atmosphere. We have also addressed issues with our GPU-driven rendering and texture streaming solution that should mitigate the LOD popping and texture quality issues that were prevalent in the July demo." Hopefully they get this all ready by the time it releases.
They also talk about how they are building the environments to be modular. which would help them speed up the design process. One of the reasons for this approach is the "sheer density of content in the expansive outdoor environment". the challenges of this being getting the game to render the environments effectively. Something that also stuck out from the interview was how they would be making the outdoor spaces big and have many ways to move. while indoors will be more linear and made of hard surfaces(metals).
On the other side of the interview there was some feedback on the live services team and customization team. Initially they are a bit cagey on details but reveal some good pointers.
first they explain that going forward player feedback will be more important. That they are going to use a system similar to reach. They also mentioned that the coating system while throwing out the old system is supposed to be more expansive and allow for more complete armor patterns and choices. They still have not made it much less of a blow. But there could be hope it won't be a complete area of failure.
It appears now that the new release date is in fall of 2021. On another note this promise has now been made: "To round up a little. No loot boxes. No randomness or items that influence the sandbox and gameplay." Take it or leave it this type of promise has been made before. So 343 if you see this, probably won't but if you do. Do not break that promise, because if you do, many players will never trust you again. Bethesda made this promise most recently and then went back on it. That has been a blow to them.
Anyway all in all this is a solid interview that gave the players a lot of details. As for the armor appearance, take a look for your self.
