Recently while surfing the web I have heard rumors of something exciting. Apparently a team of very talented people are trying to build Xbox live for the Xbox classic! A sort of substitute service, one that uses the old methods that it used to use. No modification required, in fact it might be better if you didn’t mod the Xbox.
There is not much information out there but there has been both a video on Youtube and a Reddit post. Some youtubers and purebox.com have covered this already. But I felt it was too exciting to not cover. It is called project insignia and it has been in development since last year. The idea is to bring back the classic experience of Xbox live from the first Xbox. Such an undertaking has always been difficult due to Microsoft's secretive nature. As stated in the post they want to push it out by autumn but make no promises. As a person who never got to play the classic Xbox live due to having a GameCube back then this is very exciting. I probably will go out and buy another Xbox classic to play it on. Reason being I soft modded my classic Xbox, furthermore I left it with my parents when I moved out. But regardless this is great news, and rather exciting. If this project succeeds then the experience of the classic Xbox will be fully restored for a new generation to enjoy. If you have a classic Xbox it may be time to bust it out. If you don't then it may be time that getting one would be fun. Most are not that expensive. Though the games and controllers may be hard to find.
PS: Microsoft if you see this, then it may be time to release some classic Xboxes, controllers and games back into the market. Make it a one time anniversary gift or something. be easy and cheap by today's standards anyway.
